 The results are in!
The results from the poll show that most of you felt there were too many forums. The most popular choice, by far, was to consolidate them into chassis type, so that's what I've done.

Please let me know if you find any problems or I missed anything.

Thanks to Eric, for giving me a little kick and getting me started on the conversion.

Eric - great work on the revamp of the website. Glad to see it back up and functioning, along with the forums being back up.

BTW, are the old forums getting rolled into these, or are they gone for good?

Hi Richard, It's Wayne. Thanks for the compliment. Eric's been busy, I haven't seen him for a couple of months. But I had an unexpected block of free time, and decided to get things rolling. All suggestions are appreciated.
These forums have some import capabilities, however, the original forums were not hosted on the same server as the website. I'll try to get an archive and see what I can do. No promises. I know everyone was really missing the forums, so I wanted to get them open, even though I haven't moved most of the content into the new layout yet. So look around, and let me know how you think I should prioritize the content transfer.

Yes - seems like a prime opportunity, with the demise of SVT and their support of the SVTOA, to really push SCOA, both as a forum and as an organization.

If you would like any help, I'm a degreed graphic designer. I don't do web, but I can do about anything else. Flyers, pdf documents, newsletters, etc.

Well I am back ... have missed the SCOA for awhile now .... Still in Iraq tho .... for at least another year LOL! but that is a topic for another forum ... a couple of suggestions for this one for you to consider:

1. Group the cars by type and body style rather than individual years or frame type. i.e. 93s get their own (93 AND 93R in one forum) 94&95 get their own 5.0L and new body style 96-98 in one 1999-2002 in one and 03 and 04 in one. This groups everyone with similar cars likely to have similar problems in the same forums.

2. have a separate Tech Tips and How to section that is read only .. so it doesn't get cluttered with discussions and off topic stuff ... have the moderator verify the tip sheets submitted and post them when they are complete.

3. Have a Flameing section where people can take arguements that get personal LOL! you know this is the one website where this kind of thing is least likely to happen but it would be nice to have someplace for flame wars LOL!

4. Are we working on getting any coorporate sponserships i.e. official SCOA endorsement for a forum or advertising space. would cut down a bit on our expenses maybe ...

I had a couple of more put cant think of them at the moment ... will post them if/when they come up *heh*

Hi Lee,
Thanks for joining.
I see the website as a meeting place for SCOA members and enthusiasts. I think the main focus of the website should be to introduce new people to the SCOA and convince them that this is a club worth their time and enthusiasm. As a group, we have always been very generous and eager to help. I think this website would be a good way for new people to see that.

Thanks for the offer. After the content has all been migrated, and most of the bugs have been worked out, maybe we could use your talent on the header for the website. You could redesign it, I'll turn it into a "skin" and make it work with the CMS.

Hello RDJ, and thank you for joining us.
You've got some great ideas.

#1 see Survey, I've added your option

#2 Are you thinking something along the lines of a Tech / how-to FAQ? or maybe a Wiki?

#3 A flame section to dump out of control messages to is a great idea.

#4 I have always funded SCOA.org out of my own pocket. It is my contribution to the organization, and I really don't mind.
When I'm sure things are stable, I may add something simple like ad sense, or eBay ads to offset the cost. But you will never see any ads that move and blink on this site (I can't stand them either).
If there is any money to be made from vendor ads, that would go straight to Bob for SCOA use.

Thanks again, and come home soon.

Hi folks,

Yes, I just found out myself... Wayne, you've done great work, and YOU deserve all the credit for this. I just got an email from Steve Felde, and I told him the same.

Best regards,
SoCal94 (boy, it has sure been a long time since I typed it like that!)

Wayne,

Just so you know - I have an archive copy of the old forums from Alan's server. We'll have to talk about getting them imported somehow.

RDJ,

Iraq??!?!??!? I had no idea. Can you email me your address? I'd be happy to send you a care package - just email me your address at 'socal94 @ cox dot net'.

Best regards,
SoCal94

Thanks Eric,
I think I made the right choice, all the encouragement and postive comments have motivated me to work harder to get things in order. Much better than working in isolation.

I'm communicating with someone who has done a UBB / Active Forums conversion. No promises, but it looks possible.

All though I haven't been on much in the last month or two I am very glad that the site is back up and running.

I was a member on the old site (Lee93cobra) and hated it when it started slowly losing participation

I have not been on the site in a couple years, not taking my 97 on track anymore. WOW!! What a change! I have not taken much time to look around yet, but I love the look.
